Hey everyone!
I am back with another blog, but this one will be a bit different. Back in 2022, I was a part of a writing challenge for a full month alongside a few other writers. One of the challenges was a short story and we got to pick our own topic. I prayed on it and God used this particular challenge to talk to me about me.
Who you are, your desires and your needs may be different than mine, but I hope my story can help you self reflect and take the steps you need to receive your heart’s desires. Please note: If you are not aligned with God, your desires and His desires may not be the same. But the more you commune with God and take delight in Him, His desires for your life becomes your desires.
My Story
It is Saturday morning and my day off. I decided to sleep in until 8:30. When I awoke, I needed to use the bathroom right away. After washing my hands, I looked up in the mirror. Who I saw wasn’t me. It was an older woman looking like she needed to be set free.
I turned my head left and right, up and down all the while this unknown woman mirrored everything I did.
I asked her, ” who are you? Why are you here”?
She replied, ” I am you and I am here to show you yourself in the future.”
I said, “Why do you look sad, like something is holding you back”?
She replied, “You are holding you back.”
I asked her to clarify.
She responded with, “you have a fire stored within you. You have the potential to do anything. Your lack of focus, discipline and consistency will keep you living idle and just sitting on dreams while daydreaming about the future.”
I just sat in reality of it all because I knew she was right. She started to tell me more.
“Nadine”, she said. “I know what you can do and I know what God can do through you.” Then she asked, “what do you desire”?
So I told her my heart’s desires: Freedom to travel when I want, be at home working in peace, have my own business and grow my ministry. Also, I want to be able to have the funds and resources to pay my tithes weekly, give to those in need, pay my bills, save and still be able to treat myself without having to sacrifice one for the other.
My desires continued. “I would also like to build or buy a house for my family, have a God-fearing man for a life partner and a community of godly friendships.”
She then asked, “what is stopping you from moving your feet toward the life you desire“?
Truth is, I didn’t have any excuse so I didn’t reply.
She went on to say, “I am also here to let you know that you can have all of these things, but faith without work is dead. If you don’t take a step each day, what you see in the mirror will be you in ten years. A spirit still waiting to be set free.“
She continued, “write down your goals, needs and wants. Along with that, write down the steps to take daily to reach them. You will get there by faith and action, but most of all, love.”
This woman reminded me of what the word of God says. In Romans 8:28 it states: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
I couldn’t do anything but cry in shame and guilt for not moving my feet in the way I should’ve been. It is in our actions that we prove faithful to God. Not only faithfulness but also obedience.
When she seen me cry, she told me, “I am not here to bring guilt and shame on you. I am here to help you walk in faith and do what the Good Lord has told you to do. There are souls depending on your obedience and willingness to serve the Most High.
She vanished away shortly after and left me with a choice.
The choice to take the required steps forward or stay where I am being idle.
Thank you for reading and if you can relate to my story, my prayer for you is to become more diligent in what God has given you. Your desires isn’t there for no reason just like your gifts and talents aren’t. God will surely bless you when you use what He has given you to bless others.
