Hi Ya’ll! Yea, I say the word “ya’ll” but that’s okay because I’m southern born and southern bred! Welcome to my page and lets get started on some amazing things the Holy Spirit led me to write about.
Notice my title states “Be WHO you were called to be” not “Do WHAT you were called to do”. The latter will be my next topic. A wise man in Christ said “we have to embrace the truth that “calling” is about who you are before what you do. Who you are is way more important to God than what you do.” That wise man goes by the name of Pastor Craig Groeschel. While I was listening to this pastor, I was thinking “hmmm I thought our calling was all about what we do”.
I do understand now why he said “Be who you were called to be” because how possibly can you DO what God is calling you to do if you are not LIVING the way God called you to live. In 2 Timothy 1:9 Paul states: For God saved us and “called” us to live a holy life. And how exactly do we live a holy life, one may ask. By (1) obeying God in every area of your life and (2) following the example of Christ.
Obey God In Every Area Of Your Life.
1 Peter 1:13-15 NLT – >> “So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”
In order to be obedient and live the way we are called to live, we have to separate ourselves from the world. As Christians, we can be in the world but not of the world. Let me clarify. Being of the world is basically doing things and behaving in ways that are contrary to the Word of God. In the Bible it clearly states numerous of times how we should live and how we should not. Read Galatians 5:16-26, Ephesians 4:17-31, Ephesians 5:1-20 just to name a few. There is one I will write out. Jesus was talking with His disciples some time before He was crucified and He told them “if you love me, obey my commandments” (John 14:15 NLT). We Christians can be in the world and share the love and light of Jesus to all who needs it.
So what does it mean to be obedient and how do we obey?
So according to Oxford Dictionary , being obedient means compliance with an order, request or law or submission to another’s authority.
So what does that say for us Christians? It means that we should do what the Word says to do. That we should submit to God and trust Him whom cares for us. That we should love God with all of our hearts, all of our souls and all of our minds and love others as ourselves just as He commanded. That we should Believe in His Son Jesus Christ that rose on the third day, not just for me, not just for you, but for humanity period. That we should not only read the Word of God but meditate and apply it to our daily lives. That we should throw off our old sinful nature and our former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.
“Instead let the Spirit renew our thoughts and attitudes and put on our new nature, created to be like God* truly righteous and holy.” Ephesians 4:24
Personal Experience Of Mine
I want to share a little something that I’ve recently experienced concerning obedience. For the past three or so weeks, I been thinking and saying how I need to be self-disciplined in my fitness life like I use to be. A while back, exercising came natural and I always looked forward to it. Lord knows I really want to get back to that, but without discipline, it won’t happen.
Well fast forward to last night, while I was doing twist outs on my hair (where my natural hair ladies at lol), I began talking with God about this blog post and asked Him what is that I am needing or missing because I am low key struggling right now. He clearly spoke to me and said “you need to be self-disciplined like you use to be.”
For more confirmation, right after that, I picked up my phone to find a podcast to listen to while doing my hair and found this lady that I never heard of. During the podcast she said, “in order to be successful in the calling God has on your life, you need to be self-disciplined”. Of course she said other things that I needed to hear but that line got my attention on another level. That was nobody but God! I guess that was His way of letting me know He ain’t playing haha. Gotta love His personality. This is what some people call discipline of obedience.
Following The Example Of Christ.
To live a Holy life is following the example of Christ.
To follow the example of Jesus Christ, you need to know His character.
Jesus is Loving, Forgiving, Faithful, Obedient, Patient, Wise, Giving, Humble, Gentle and Prayerful. I’m sure there are much more about our Wonderful Counselor that I did not list.
Most importantly, He is our Savior. Without Him, there is no other way to eternal life.
If you are wanting God’s calling on your life, first pray to Him to help you become the person you were called to be. Can an imperfect person truly be holy? Yes. How? Ask God for forgiveness, accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and follow in His light.
As long as there is breath, there is hope. As long as you’re living, you have time. Get to know your purpose. Don’t live just to exist.
As long a you follow the world, it is impossible to follow Jesus.
Walk in Purpose. Walk in Truth. Walk in Light.
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have CHOSEN you out of the world.
JESUS, (JOHN 15:19)
Thank you all for reading!
