One day I was at a grocery store checking out my groceries when I started to feel anxious. The words that immediately came to mind were, ”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6) Then I remembered what we were told in a Bible Study I visited the night before, ”God is Faithful”. I had to speak God’s promises that His peace would guard my heart and mind.
I wasn’t anxious because I didn’t have enough at that time. I became uneasy when I wondered what if I didn’t have enough later on. God’s truth assured me that the doubt I had was a lie. The fear of not having enough was a lie. The worry of tomorrow, a day that is not promised, was an entire lie.
That is why it is important to know the Word of God which is the Sword of the Spirit that can destroy the Enemy’s lies.
“For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow.” – Hebrews 4:12
Below are four lies that Satan plants in our minds and four promises of God (truths) that we need to renew our minds with. We can apply these truths to our lives and the lives of our families to receive freedom from the bondage of lack, fear, insecurity, and discouragement.
Lie: You Don’t Have or Know Enough
God’s Promise: You Have All That You Need
When you start worrying about not having enough money, food, clothes, etc., that is an open door for the Enemy to place doubt in your mind. When that starts happening, immediately speak the following Scripture over your life.
Psalm 23:1 – ”The Lord is my Shepherd, I have all that I need.”
Philippians 4:6-7 – ”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Matthew 6:25 – ”Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”
Proverbs 2:6-9 – ”For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair – every good path.”
Lie: You Are All Alone
God’s Promise: He Will Never Leave You
There may be times or seasons when you feel alone and it seems no one cares. There may be times when God may tell you to do a big courageous thing and you don’t have the community behind you, so you may feel alone. Or maybe you can relate to a time when God has called you to step out of the boat (out of your comfort zone and familiar spaces) and follow Him.
How did you feel? Were you afraid? Did you try to cling to the old because that is what you knew? Were you afraid of where God was leading you because you didn’t know all the steps from A to Z? Were you afraid that He would send you alone to a place you’ve never been before to do what you’ve never done? Maybe in the flesh yes, but not in the Spirit. He is always with you.
How about you who never had a close relationship with your parents or maybe you didn’t grow up with both mom and dad? Or if you’ve been abandoned by a parent, you may feel like your Heavenly Father will too.
If you can relate to any of these or perhaps what you are going through is different, if at any time you feel lonely or feel like you are doing life alone, I encourage you to read and speak the following scriptures over your life. God is Spirit and He is there with you now.
Psalm 139:7 – ”Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I ride on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your right hand will hold me fast.”
Joshua 1:9 – ”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 – ”The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Psalm 27:10 – ”Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.”
Lie: You Are Not Beautiful
God’s Promise: You Were Created By The Creator Of The Universe
We live in a world that craves superficial beauty. Most apps have filters that we apply to make us more polished and flawless. Many tend to look to social media for ”beauty standards” or try to look like everyone else.
Some people can be so insecure that they base their worth and value on how many likes and followers they can get on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc. They crave publicity from the world over purity in God.
They may not feel beautiful if they haven’t gotten married yet or in a courtship leading to marriage because the world tells them they should be married by a certain time.
And then you have those who let the shame of their past mistakes and sins cover up the true beauty that now resides in them when Jesus washed them clean with the washing of His blood.
So let’s not forget Who created you and said, ”This is very good”, and let’s start shutting down those negative thoughts with the following scriptures. And remember, true radiant beauty starts from within not on the outside.
Psalm 139:13 – ”For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Genesis 1:31 – ”God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”
Psalm 34:5 – ”Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
Genesis 1:27 – ”So God created mankind in His own image…”
Proverbs 31:30 – ”Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Lie: You Will Lose This Battle
God’s Promise: Jesus Already Has The Victory
Have you ever had to battle something or had a whole season where you wanted to give up? You were tired, worn out, and just needed and wanted to be free from the troubles and problems that were weighing you down. Or maybe, you are going through that right now.
Maybe you are tired and worn out because you are doing all of the fighting and it doesn’t help that the world tells you to continue fighting. But the Word tells you to stand firm? Why? Because the battle is already won.
Abba Father doesn’t ask you to fight your battles; just stand on His Word, have faith in Him, and apply the following scriptures when you feel like giving up.
2 Chronicles 20:15b – ”Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
Deuteronomy 20:4 – ”For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”
1 Corinthians 15:57 – ”But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
John 16:33 – ”I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Monique ST,
I hope this message will help you when you need it and also if you know of anyone who needs an encouraging word and Scripture to apply to their life, feel generous and share this with others. If you have any go-to encouraging scriptures, feel free to share them in the comments at the end of this post.
Also, see below for a previous blog I wrote back in 2023 that relates to this blog post.
Invitation to Jesus
''If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.''
Romans 10:9-10
