Hi everyone!
Lately I have been studying the Lord’s Prayer more in depth. Most of us that has grown up in church knows this prayer by heart or at least have heard it from someone or seen it somewhere. But do we really know the meaning behind it?
When we get so use to something, we tend to oversee its value. That is how it can be with the Lord’s Prayer aka Our Father Prayer. We say this prayer in repetition because its traditional without knowing the value and power it holds.
This post today will be a break down of the Lord’s Prayer. You can find it in the Book of Matthew 6: 9-13. This is the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples because “your Father knows what you need before you ask him; This, then, is how you should pray”. – Matthew 6:8:9 Note: This prayer was part of The Sermon on the Mount.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen
MATTHEW 6: 9-13 King James Version
Our Father
This prayer begins with Our Father because He is Father to each one of us. He is not just my father or just your father, but our Father. We are all His children.
Which Art In Heaven
This gives understanding that we are praying to our Father (God) that exists in heaven. We are not praying to any gods, idols, objects etc. here on earth. He Is The One True God.
Hallowed Be Thy Name
His name is above every other name and should be respected as such. “Hallowed be thy name” reminds me of the third commandment which states: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. You can find that in Exodus 20:7. A simpler translation is “you shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
Thy Kingdom Come
First let me say this one sentence brings me great joy when I say it in prayer because Jesus is closer and closer to His return and I’m ready for that great day!
But until that day comes, we are asking God for His kingdom to be evident and surround us in our everyday lives. To be servants of Christ and live like Him, so we can go and spread the goodness of God here on earth until the end of time when Christ Will Return.
Let’s be Kingdom-Minded, Kingdom Driven and Kingdom-Purposed so that someone, hopefully many, will be saved.
Thy Will Be Done, In Earth As It Is In Heaven
We are requesting to our Sovereign High that His will be done. Not our will but His will. We each have a purpose here on earth and a calling. What God has for us to do is for a greater purpose.
Since 2019, my life motto has been “Let Your Will Be Done”. I may have plans, but the Lord directs my steps. And His plans will prevail.
Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread.
Daily bread could mean different things to different people.
I believe the original daily bread Jesus is referring to while talking with His disciples was the manna, miraculous bread, that God rained down from heaven to feed the Israelites that were in need of food. The Lord told Moses, the Israelites leader, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.” Exodus 16:4
We should trust Him to provide our everyday needs. Daily bread could mean physical food for one person but mean spiritual food for another.
What I often think about when praying for daily bread is the knowledge, wisdom and discernment I need for the day ahead. When we ask God to give us our daily bread, we are acknowledging that He is our sole provider and we have faith that He will meet our daily needs.
And Forgive Us Our Debts, As We Forgive Our Debtors.
This request of God may seem easy and simple when saying it, but it is much difficult for some to actually do it. Why? Because most people want God to forgive them of their wrong doings, but they don’t want to forgive others for doing them wrong.
I want to add this scripture on forgiveness to help you out a little bit.
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15
And Lead Us Not Into Temptation
It’s not that God will lead us into temptation but we are asking Him to lead us on the right path that protect us from the devil’s schemes.
That is why I need wisdom and discernment daily. Where does that comes from? The Holy Spirit leading, guiding and protecting me.
But Deliver Us From Evil:
Evil comes from the devil and its all around. We are letting God know that we cannot do it alone. He is our shield and protector.
This prayer request goes hand in hand with James 4:7: Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
For Thine Is The Kingdom, And The Power, And The Glory, For Ever. AMEN
For This Is God’s Kingdom, He Holds All Power And He Deserves All Praise. For ever and ever, Amen.
Blessings,

Do Not Worry
Matthew 6:25-34
Amen, I’m up early, praying and wondering why I have so much build on me. I’m not praying right at all. And when you said I’d you don’t forgive than he want forgive you touch my heart. Because in my relationship/marriage that’s a hard thing to do, when you have been wronged. But you know what I’m going to start forgiving and just let god have his way his next steps. Amen
