Have you ever thought about how you pray and what you pray for? Do you ever pray with thanksgiving in your hearts? Even on your worst days, do you thank God for who He is and what He has done? What about your good days? Are you still consistent with your prayers? Do you find yourself going to God only with complaints and telling Him all about your problems?
Sometimes we tend to forget the thanksgiving part, praising Him for all He has already done. When we are going through a trial or burdened with problems, we tend to focus on what we are going through rather than who is our Way Out.
Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh and the word of God is full of solutions, answers and wisdom that we need. The word of God also brings peace to our storms.
Many people are going through a storm right now, but when Jesus is present, even the winds bow down to His word.
In the devotional I am currently reading, Be Brave, one sentence caught my eye on November 27th. “Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace; peace abounds where He abides.”
I sat with that for a minute, and this is what came to me. When we abide in Christ and He abides in us, we will have peace despite our problems. And the way to abide in Him, is by spending quality time in the word. Reading and meditating on Scripture. And when we remember the promises of God written out in Scripture, we can then apply them in prayer by thanking God in advance and praising Him for who He is instead of just going to Him to tell what our problems are as if He doesn’t already know.
And when problems arise, we can guard our hearts and minds by shutting the fear, worry and anxiety down with the promises of God.
An exercise that I would like for us to apply in our everyday life, is find Scripture for what you may be going through and in turn, tell your problems what your God has promised you. And when you go in prayer to our Heavenly Father, you can speak those promises back to Him with thanksgiving in your hearts.
How to Apply God’s Promises to your Problems.
When you think you’re not beautiful. In response, say Psalm 139:13-14, “For you formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
When you believe the lie that you don’t have a purpose in life, remember and say what Most High God said in Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you, ‘declares the Lord’ plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
When you have a strong desire to become a mother and is having difficulty conceiving, ask God to remember you like He remembered Hannah in 1 Samual 1:11. And in turn, thank Him for your child and ask that He prepare you for such role with a heart to dedicate your child back to Christ.
When you are faced with financial woes and fear that you don’t have enough, tell yourself that you have nothing to worry about. The same God that provides for the birds of the air, will provide for you too. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your everyday life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?“ – Matthew 6:25-26
If you have a fear of being bold and courageous, tell that fear that God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7 Then walk in that power.
The Importance of Knowing Scripture
Let’s look back at the story of Jesus in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus spent that entire time fasting and finally the tempter, Satan, came and tried to use the word of God to deceive, manipulate and trick Jesus into doing things against the will of God.
The reason I brought this up is because, Satan himself knows the Scripture and will twist the word of God for his benefit. He couldn’t trick Jesus because Jesus of course knew the word of God better than he did and Jesus had the power to overcome the temptation and the devil’s schemes.
And so do you.
You have delegated power in you, given to you by the authority of Christ. To get to know this authority and power, you need to be abiding in Christ always by spending time in the word so that Satan won’t trick you as he did Eve in the garden of Eden. refer to Genesis 3.
Satan tricked Eve by making her doubt what God really said. And he will try his hardest to make you doubt.
He will have you think that your health will never get better, but if know the will of God, sickness is not part of it.
He will have you falsely believe that you will never come out of your depression, but when you truly believe in the name of Jesus, that darkness will flee.
He will get you to believe that your husband or wife is your enemy, but when your marriage is built on the foundation of truth, you both as one flesh can and will persevere through the power of prayer and love.
Satan will make you doubt the business idea that God gave you because you don’t “have or know enough”, but the truth says, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want [lack for anything.]
For Scripture says in John 14:6, “Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life”.
And the Truth will set you free.
John 14:6 & John 8:32
Today, lets learn the promises of God and speak them with authority over our life.

He is the Light in the darkness, the Living Water when your soul is thirsty and the Daily Bread you need to survive. He is our Saving Grace, Healing Grace and Friend.
