Hello everyone! I am back with another blog post and this particular psalm I’m writing about is very dear to my heart because it is describing our Jehovah Jireh, our provider.
NOTE: The King James Version of Psalm 23 is what I will start with, but I will have a simpler version at the end of the blog post.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
The Lord Is My Shepherd
What is a Shepherd? According to Merriam Webster, a shepherd is a person who tends sheep. The shepherd also guides and directs their flock in a particular direction. The Shepherd also cares for the safety and welfare of the flock. When one gets lost, the Shepherd always go find his lost sheep and brings it back home.
What this verse means to me is: as long as I got the Lord (King Jesus), I have all that I need. This verse reminds me of the Book of Matthew 6:25-34. There is no need to worry when you have a Good Shepherd tending to your everyday life and leading you and guiding you in the way you should go.
He Restores My Soul
All under the care of the Shepherd, He gives rest to the weary, strength to the weak and peace to the anxious. He gives Daily Bread to those that hunger for Him and Living Water for those that thirst for him.
Your soul needs to be restored…renewed…redeemed in order to stand in the shadow of the valley of death. And having done all, just stand. Because the battle is already won.
I Will Fear No Evil
Wherever I go and whatever life brings, there is not an evil on earth that can touch my soul while standing in the presence of Jesus. He alone has divine authority and has already overcome evil.
He Prepares a Table and Anoints My Head…My Cup Overflows
As long as you are a follower of Jesus, you are an enemy to the world. Many people will hate you, berate you and even persecute you. But don’t worry about those people. Jesus will always be there to protect you and fill your table abundantly even in front of those that despise you.
To have the anointing of God’s grace, love and mercy on my life daily is more than enough. My cup overflows with spiritual blessings.
When your cup is overflowing, pouring out…you should be pouring those blessings in someone else’s cup not wasting them. His love is never-ending and his grace is for everyone.
His Goodness And Mercy Will Follow Me
Jesus is our Shepherd and He is a good and merciful God. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). As I follow Him, His goodness and mercy will follow me and I know that I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
At the end of age, Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats. He said that His sheep knows His voice and follow Him.
Are you part of His herd of sheep? Are you following Jesus?
I encourage you to put Him in your life and follow Him day by day and watch every need be met.
The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me besides peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. - New Living Translation
