The definition of surrender is to give up completely. The phrase “to give up completely”, reminds me of loving God “wholeheartedly”.
Jesus gave us the greatest commandment: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
The word “all” means the whole you. You are not surrendering when you give Him half of your mind, half of your heart, half of your soul and half of your strength.
Jesus gave himself up completely for the redemption of our souls. Before He gave up His spirit, He said, “it is finished“. (John 19:30)
Death no longer has a hold on us. Sickness no longer has a hold on us. Poverty no longer has a hold on us. Anxiety no longer has a hold on us. Depression no longer has a hold on us. Fear no longer has a hold on us. Failure no longer has a hold on us.
When you give yourself completely to the One that gave himself completely for you, you enter into His rest, His peace, His joy, His grace, His power and His glory.
Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
Life began with Him and sin ended through Him.
Gaining Freedom Through Surrendering
Just got laid off. Diagnoses just came back. Marriage is on the rocks. Teens acting out. Vehicle needs fixed. School work seems too hard to pass. College life is getting the best of you. Anxiety is causing you to panic. Worry is making you fear. Depression has taken your mind hostage.
And Yet…..there is still freedom in Jesus Christ.
Your bank account may change, but God stays solid. Your diagnoses report may come back bad, but God is still good. You may be afraid of the future, but God still holds tomorrow. Your bills are due and money is gone, but God still provides. Your marriage may seem broken, but God still mends. Your body may be in pain, but God still heals. Grief is heavy, but the burden of Jesus is light.
You may not see a way, but Jesus is the Way.
You may be use to lies, but Jesus is the Truth
You may want to give up on life, but Jesus is Life.
When you choose to surrender by trusting God with your whole heart, whole mind, whole soul and whole strength, He will give you what this world is unable to give you. Peace through the storm, joy through the gloom, love through the pain and grace through the fire.
