Do ever feel like God has told you to do something that was out of your control? What He was asking was so extraordinary that you didn’t think it was possible because it was you that He chose to do it.
As I have read throughout the Bible, everyone that God had chosen was ordinary people like you and I, but that’s a good thing to the Most High. He knew they were in a humble position to learn from Him and other people would know that it was nobody but God working through them.
I write this from a personal heart based on personal experiences.
I myself have been one of those ordinary individuals that God has called and chosen to do things that I would have never done if He didn’t call and assure me that he would be with me. I have leaned heavily on that Joshua 1:9! Lol.
When He first called me to become a writer to bring souls to Christ, I was so scared and thought, “who am I to write and blog for Jesus? I was afraid of making grammar mistakes and not having all biblical knowledge that I needed in order to start. But He just wanted me to show up and be authentic. Show up and be relatable. He was going to do the rest.
When He first called me to speak doing short form videos on TikTok and Instagram, I was afraid of not speaking perfectly, but God said, “just show up. I will be with you”. I was afraid of people’s opinion and rejection, but He reminded me of my spiritual gift of encouragement by sending someone to tell me that the world needs hope and encouragement and that I have it to give.
When He first called me to speak in front of a crowd at church, oh my, I was literally shaking in my boots! Well, I didn’t have boots on, but you get the drift. I was shaking and really scared when I got the phone call, but I said yes anyways. That had to been nobody but God talking for me!
He has called me to start a business venture for the Kingdom of God on earth to will out what has already been done in heaven. That’s where we currently are. I can see the vision, but the vision literally seems impossible given current circumstances. But God said, “just show up and start”. What I don’t have currently in the physical realm, He has already provided in the spiritual realm.
I still write, make videos and I recently spoke at my home church this past Sunday. I was the guest speaker at a local church last month.
I didn’t ask for all this. It asked for me.
I could have never done any of this in my own confidence, strength or knowledge. And God knew that. But He chose me anyways.
Growing up, I was never the talkative kid. I was shy and barely talked. I didn’t like trying new things or getting out of my comfort zone. So, can you even imagine God using me to take a stand and speak for Him? Would you think that He would use a shy and timid person to represent Him?
The answer for some may be no. But since I am a testimony of it, that answer is yes.
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” – Philippians 2:13
People God Used In Bible Times
I want to give you some great examples of ordinary and everyday men and women that God chosen to do His will on earth.
Noah
I am unsure what line of work Noah was in prior to the flood, but I do know that the Bible mentioned him after the flood being a farmer that planted a vineyard. A grape farmer and construction worker are total opposites.
But God…
When He calls you, He qualifies you.
God knew that Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. (Genesis 6:9) He knew that Noah would be willing, available and obedient.
Noah had never seen so much rain before because it never flooded, but He believed God when He told him what was going to happen.
God gave Noah the entire blueprint on how to build the ark that will save him, his family and two of every kind of living creature.
Building the ark was an extraordinary thing, but God gave Noah the vision and instructions then blessed his hand to build it.
Moses
A little back story on Moses, he was born to a Hebrew couple. During that time, the new king of Egypt issued an order to all his people stating: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile but let every girl live.” (Exodus 1:22) Pharaoh, Egypt’s king, was afraid of how the Israelites was growing in number all over the land and feared that they would join their enemies and fight against the Egyptians.
After Moses was born, his mother hid him for three months until she could no longer hide him. She then put him in a basket and sent him down the Nile where Pharoah’s daughter found Moses and decided to keep him making Moses a prince of Egypt.
When God did called Moses, he was a shepherd working for his father-in-law. God did not call Moses because of his prior title of a prince. He called Moses because He knew that His glory would be shown through Moses. Moses wasn’t a man of great eloquence, but God assured him that it would be He, Most High, speaking through him and showing His power through him. But like Esther, Moses was right where He needed to be. Everything that happened from a baby on up, happened as it should.
Esther
Esther was chosen to be at the right place at the right time.
Esther was brought up as a Jew and was raised by her cousin, Mordecai, when her parents passed away. Mordecai worked at the palace gate of King Xerxes when he heard of the king’s order of finding a new queen.
When Esther was chosen to go to the palace, the king found much favor in her and made her Queen.
She hid her nationality but later realized after having a talk with Mordecai, she had to walked in who she was and whose she was.
Esther became Queen at the right time because she was able to save her people, the Jews, from being killed.
David
‘David was an average teenage shepherd boy. He wasn’t as physically strong as his older brothers. But God doesn’t look at the outside appearance as He does the heart.
And that is what made David set apart. He was a man after God’s own heart. He was willing and ready to be obedient to the call.
David was already in the right position as he was a “servant keeping his father’s sheep.” 1 Samuel 17:34
And that training, preparation, dedication to God and having courage helped him walk in favor of the Lord who made David king of Israel.
Mary Magdalene
Mary was an ordinary woman that was delivered from seven demons. Luke8:2 Mary became a follower of Jesus and traveled with Him and the 12 disciples. Mary was willing to listen and learn. She did not put other cares of the world before sitting at the feet of Jesus.
In the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus told us what was more important than just doing for Him. That is spending time with Him. Martha was busy serving and working. Although that is not a bad thing at all, Jesus did tell Martha, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. Luke 10:41-42
Mary Magdalene was the first person that Jesus appeared to after His resurrection. He sent her out with a message to tell the others. “Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'” John 20:17
Before you can walk in your purpose, you will need to have an intimate relationship with Jesus. Mary had that and He chose her to go and tell the others the Good News.
Apostle Paul
The amazing Paul. That is what I call him. Except for the fact that he literally crucified Christians. Then one glorious day, Jesus appeared to him and asked, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Acts 9:4
Jesus then sent Saul on to the town of Damascus, but with no sight.
He sent a disciple, Ananias, to heal Saul. In response to Ananias hesitation, Jesus said, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show Him how much he must suffer for my name.” Acts 9:15-16
After the miraculous healing, Saul’s name was changed to Paul, and he indeed went out to the gentiles proclaiming the name of Jesus and is responsible for writing majority of the New Testament.
Paul called himself, “the worst of sinners”. But God Himself came and turned that sinner around.
Stephen
Stephen was known as a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.
Stephen was bold and courageous.
Stephen didn’t keep his mind on the earthly things. He was on mission for the Lord.
Even if that mission was going to get him killed.
The people did not like that He spoke the truth and spoke up for the Truth.
So they stoned Stephen to death.
And while they were stoning him, Stephen said, ”Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”
Stephen is an inspiration to all believers. Full of faith and grace. Filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. He was bold and was willing to live for Jesus no matter the cost.
There are many great men and women of the Bible that I could not add to this blog post because it would make it way too long, but to name a few more. Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Joseph, Joshua and Ruth. Samuel, Nehemiah and Jeremiah. Deborah, Lydia and Miriam. Ezekiel, Daniel, and Jonah. Peter, John the Baptist, and Matthew. Timothy, Titus and Isaiah. Ananias, the one that God used to heal Saul’s blindness. And Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Those are not even half of the individuals that God called for His glory. Each of these individuals had their own struggles like any ordinary person, but God.
When He chooses you, He anoints you to do the extraordinary in the physical realm.
